William Ozbun (Mathew, Isabel) was born in 1725 OS1. He was
probably the William “Ozburn” who produced a certificate from the Cold Spring Neck
Monthly Meeting in Sussex County, Pennsylvania on the 20th day of the 12th
month, 1747/8 to come under the care of Friends (Quakers) of the Warrington
Monthly Meeting PE8. The records of the
Warrington Monthly Meeting in York County, Pennsylvania stated that William
Ozbun, the son of Mathew Ozbun of Warrington, and Rebeccah Cox, the daughter of
Richard Cox of Warrington, made their first declaration of their intent to
marry on the 20th day of the 8th month, 1750 and again on the 17th day of the 9th month, 1750 US11, CO14; William Ozbun and Rebeccah Cox were reported married at the
monthly meeting held at Warrington on the 15th day
of the 10th month, 1750 US11 and
they were said to have married on the 5th day of
the 10th month, 1750
at a meeting at the home of Richard Cox OS1.
William, Rebecca,
and their two children joined his parents and relatives in North Carolina in
1753, settling approximately twelve miles south of Greensboro OS1. On January 5, 1754, William was received
at the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in Orange (now Alamance) County, North
Carolina by a certificate from
Warrington Monthly Meeting in Pennsylvania dated June 4, 1753 HI4.
A Warrington Monthly Meeting dated August 18, 1753, stated that William and
Rebecka Ozburn had requested certificates to “Cain Creek”, North Carolina CO14.
William died at
about the age of forty-three in 1768 OS1.
His will, created on July 19, 1768, was witnessed by John Powell, Daniel Ozbun,
and Thomas Bishop, and according to the date marked adjacent to the beginning
of the will, seems to have been recorded on October 13, 1768 NO6:
I William Ozbun of the County of Ronn
[Rowan] and Province of North Carolinia Yoa: [Yeoman] being sick and weak of
Body but of sound mind and Memory and calling to mind the uncertenty of Life
and certenty of Death and knowing that it is appoined for all men once to die I
do make and ordain this my last Will and Testement in Manner and Form following
that is to say first and prinsiapbly I commity my Soul into Hand of the
Almighty God that gave it and my Body to be decently burryed at the Discretion
of my Executors here after named and as to my worldly Estate wherewith it hath
pleased God to bless my with I give devise and dispose of the same in Manner
& Form following. Imprimis: it is my Will and I do order that in the first
place all my just Debts and funerel Charges be be [sic] paid and satisfied. Item: I give and bequeath to Rebeccah my
beloved Wife one third Part of the Tract or Parcel of Land I now preses
[possess] and the House I now live in to hold and preses during her naturel
Life and after her Deceice to my beloved Son Abraham with fifty three Acres
more joyning to the aforesaid Which Land I do give and bequeath to my beloved
Son Abraham to him his Hairs & Assigns forever the fifty three Acres for
him to presess at the Age of Twenty one Years and his Mothers aforesaid Thirds
of Land at her Diceis Also I give to my Son Abraham a Mare and Gun which he now
calls his which I alow to be his part of my Esta[te] rail & Pasenel [real
and personal]. Item And I further order and will that the other Part of my Land
to be sold at publick Vandue at the Time that my beloved Son Richard come to
the Age of twenty one Years and the Price thereof to be equily devided among
the Rest of my Children that shall live to come to the Age of twenty one Years
to receive it. Item I further order and will the Rest of my movable Estate to
be used in as nesesety my requier for the Seport of my dear Wife and Children
at the Decretion of my dear Wife and William Reynoldsun and Samuel Ozbun the
two last I likewise Constite make and ordain my only and sole Executers of this
my las Will and Testement ratifiing and confirming this and no other to be my
last Will and Testement In witness wherof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal
this 19th Day of the 7th Month in the Year of or Lord 1768
Rebecca
Cox (Richard, Elizabeth)
was the mother of Abraham, Richard, Thomas, William, twins David and Jonathan, Matthew,
Elizabeth, and Isable (or Isabel). An anecdotal account of her horseback
journey from Pennsylvania to North Carolina stated that she used an apple tree
twig as a whip, and after she arrived, she poked it into the ground, where it
sprouted and grew into a tree which bore fruit OS1. Seven of her nine children died in the
space of eight weeks OS1.
Thomas, who was twenty-six, died of an undocumented cause on November 7, 1781, but the
other six siblings perished from “slow fever” OS1. Elizabeth died on
November 23, 1781, and her younger sister Isabel was fifteen at her death on
December 13, 1781 HI4, OS1. Then, three died in the space of
three days: Mathew on December 26, twenty-nine-year-old Richard on December 27,
and thirty-year-old Abraham on December 28 HI4, OS1. Finally, Jonathan
died on January 3, 1782 HI4, OS1. Just two sons survived, William and
David HI4, OS1.

Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that Abraham Ozburn,
the son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was born on the 19th day of the 6th month, 1751 US11.
The
records of the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina
state that Richard Ozburn, the son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was
born on the 20th day of the 12th month, 1752 US11. The records of the Center Monthly
Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that Richard Ozbun, the son of
William and Rebecca Ozbun, died on the 27th
day of the 12th month, 1781 and was buried on the 14th day of the 12th month at the Friends’ Burying Ground at
the Center Meetinghouse US11. He
allegedly never married OS1.
The
records of the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Guilford County and the records of
the Cane Creek Monthly Meeting in Orange (now Alamance) County, North Carolina
state that Thomas Ozburn, the son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was
born on the 26th day of the 1st month, 1755 US11. The records of the Cane Creek Monthly
Meeting in Alamance County, North Carolina state that Thomas Ozbun, the son of
William and Rebeckah, married Elizabeth Stout on the 17th day of the 10th month, 1776 HI4. Thomas and Elizabeth Ozburn were said
to have been the parents of William, born about 1778, and Margaret, born about
1780 OS1. Thomas was said to have died on the 7th day of the 11th month, 1781 OS1.
The
records of the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina
state that William Ozburn, the son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was
born on the 14th day of the 12th month, 1756 US11. The records of the Center Monthly
Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that William Ozbun of Guilford
County, the son of William and Rebecca, married Mary Lowder on the 21st day of the 11th month, 1782 HI4. The records of the Center Monthly Meeting
in Guilford County, North Carolina state that William and Mary Ozbun were the
parents of Richard, born on the 27th
day of the 8th month, 1783, Thomas, born on the 10th day of the 10th month, 1785, William, born on the 1st day of the 8th month, 1787, Jonathan, born on the 6th day of the 6th month, 1789, Rebeccah, born on the 9th day of the 1st month, 1791, Hannah, born on the 24th day of the 9th month, 1794, Mary, born on the 24th day of the 7th month, 1797, and David, born on the 22nd day of the 7th month, 1799 US11. The records of the Center Monthly
Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that William Osborn, the son
of William, died at age eighty-seven on the 8th day of the 6th month, 1886 US11. The records of the Deep Creek Monthly
Meeting in Yadkin County, North Carolina listed two sons of William and Mary
Ozbun who were not included in the Center Monthly Meeting records; these were
Matthew Ozbun, who was born on the 28th
day of the 10th month, 1792 (and died on the 20th day of the 8th month, 1806), and Abraham Ozbun, who
was born on the 28th day
of the 5th month, 1803 (and died on the 30th day of the 7th month, 1807) US11. The records of the Deep Creek Monthly
Meeting in Yadkin County, North Carolina state that William Ozborn died on the
14th day of the 9th month, 1813 (September 14, 1813) US11.
The records of the New Garden Monthly
Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that David Ozburn, the
son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was born on the 3rd day of the 3rd month, 1759 US11. David was said to have married
Elizabeth Thompson, with who he was the father of Nancy, Mary, Jonathan (who
was born about 1797 and died about 1881), Esther, Elizabeth, Lydia, Miriam, and
Rebecca OS1.

the son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was born on the 3rd day of the 3rd month, 1759 US11. The records of the Center Monthly
Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that Jonathan Ozbun, the son
of William and Rebecca Ozbun, died on the 3rd
day of the 1st month, 1782 and was buried on the
following day at the Friends’ Burying Ground at the Center Meetinghouse US11.

the son of William and Rebeckah Ozburn, was born on the 19th day of the 3rd month, 1762 US11. The records of the Center Monthly
Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina state that Matthew Ozbun, the son of
William and Rebecca Ozbun, died on the 26th
day of the 12th month, 1781 and was buried on the 28th day of the 12th month at the Friends’ Burying Ground at
the Center Meetinghouse US11.

daughter of William and Rebecca Ozbun, died on the 23rd day of the 11th month, 1781 and was buried on the 25th day of the 11th month at the Friends’ Burying Ground at
