William James Hannah was a farmer who was born in March 1825 UN14 or about 1821
US3, 1825 UN12,
UN13, 1828 UN10, or 1830 UN11 in
Kentucky UN10, UN11,
UN12, UN13, but while both Sarah A. Hanners and William
J. Hanners (his daughter and son) independently stated to the 1910 US Census
enumerator that their father was born in Illinois UN15, they also
stated to the 1920 enumerator that he was born in Kentucky UN16. In 1880,
James Hanna stated that his parents were born in Virginia UN13. His
surname has been spelled Hanna, Hannah, and Hanners. A
Pope County, Illinois marriage record between “Wm James Hanna” and “Miss Maria Kellums”
indicated that they were wed by H.L. Dixon on March 11, 1849 PO8. In 1850, William J. Hanner,
Maria, and Andrew (age two) lived in District 14 of Cape Girardeau County,
Missouri UN10. In the census years 1860 and 1870, they lived in Union
Township, Bollinger County, Missouri UN11, UN12. A Civil
War draft registration record indicated that James Hannah, a farmer with no
former military experience who resided in Union Township, Bollinger County,
Missouri, was born in Kentucky and was forty-two in July 1863 US3,
indicating a birth year of about 1821. William J. Hanners and his wife, Amanda
M., and daughter, Sarah A., resided in Whitewater Township, Bollinger County,
Missouri in 1900 UN14.

Amanda Maria Kellums was also called Mariah UN11. She was
born in October 1823 UN14 or about 1825 UN12, 1826 UN13, or 1827 UN10, UN11 in
Tennessee UN10, UN11,
UN12, UN13. In 1880, Amanda M. Hanna stated that her
parents were also born in Tennessee UN13. Amanda Maria was the
mother of Andrew L., Mary E., Orlena M., Sarah A., William J., and Marah UN11, UN12. In
1900, Amanda M. Hanners stated that she was the mother of seven children, but
four were alive at that time UN14. Andrew L. Hannah was born about 1848 UN10 or 1849 UN11, UN12 in
Illinois UN10, UN11 or Missouri UN12. He resided next to
James and Maria with his wife, Mary, and infant son, Henry, in 1870 UN12. He may
have been the Andrew “Hanners” whose Dunklin County, Missouri death certificat
stated was born about 1845 in Missouri to unknown parents; this Andrew died as
a widower at about age seventy-six on October 10, 1921 in Union Township,
Dunklin County. Mary E. Hannah was
born about 1851 in Missouri UN11. Orlena M. (or “Orleria M.” UN11) Hannah was born about
1852 UN12, 1853 UN11, 1854 UN13, or in July 1854 UN14 in Missouri UN11, UN12, UN13. Sarah A. Hannah
(Hanna UN13; Hanners UN14, UN15) was born in
June 1855 UN14 or about 1855 UN12, UN15, 1856 UN11, UN16, or
1857 UN13 in Missouri UN11, UN12, UN13, UN15.
She was probably the Sarah “Hanners” who, according to her Bollinger County,
Missouri death certificate, was born in Missouri in 1853 to James Hanners and
Mariah Kellums and who died as a single woman at age seventy-six on March 17,
1930 in Whitewater Township, Bollinger
County. William James Hannah
(Hanners) was born about 1858 UN11, UN12, UN16 or 1859 UN15 in
Missouri UN11, UN12,
UN16. In 1900, William J. Hanners, born in
November, resided in Whitewater Township, Bollinger County with his wife,
Susan, son-in-law, Thomas, and a boarder, William Sebaugh UN14. At that
time, they had been married for twenty-five years, indicating a marriage in
1875, but their only child had already died UN14. They
lived next door to William J. and Amanda M. Hanners UN14 (his
parents). W.J. Hanners of Patton married Mrs. Rosa Murphy on February 8, 1906
in Kennett, Dunklin County, Missouri MI17. William J. Hanners
appeared on the 1910 US Census in Whitewater Township with his wife, Mary R.,
and his step-daughter, Myrtle Murphy UN15. They lived near Sarah
A. Hanners, who was unmarried and lived alone UN15. W.J.
Hanners and Rosa lived with Sarah, called his sister, in Whitewater Township,
Bollinger County in 1920 UN16. The Bollinger County, Missouri death certificate for James
Hanners indicated that he was a widower who was born on December 6, 1856 in
Missouri to James Hanners of Tennessee and an unidentified mother, and he died
at age seventy-one on December 10, 1927 in Whitewater Township. Marah Hannah was four months old at the
time of the 1860 census UN11, but who may have died before her tenth birthday because she
was not enumerated with her family in 1870 UN12.
