in approximately 1650 KI1. After
the death of Thomas, with whom she was the mother of Elizabeth Brooks KI1, she married Job Vergett
KI1, SH6, with whom she was the mother of Job Vergett ES1, KI1. Job Vergett, the son of Job Vergett,
was born in 1671 and was baptized on January 2, 1671 in Charles Parish, York
County, Virginia YO6. Job Virgett married Elizabeth Bendry,
the relict of William Bendry, in 1708 in Richmond and
Essex, Virginia ES19.
Another marriage record indicates that Job Virgett
married Elizabeth Shipley, the daughter of Ealse, in
1715 in Richmond and Essex, Virginia ES19.
Job Virgett wrote his will on November 16, 1705,
which was probated in Essex County, Virginia on March 13, 1712/3 FL3.
He mentioned his brother, William Davis, his daughter, Mary, his wife,
Elizabeth (whom he named as his executor), James Jones, and Thomas Short FL3.
His will was witnessed by Robert Moseley and Josias Ship FL3. In
Essex County, Virginia on April 9, 1713, Elizabeth Virgett was named the
administratrix of the estate of Job Virgett, who was deceased FL8.
Her
second husband died soon after their marriage and the inventories of the
estates of both Thomas Brooks and Job Vergett were
conducted in quick succession, for on November 25, 1672, one month after the
York County Court received the inventory of the estate of Thomas Brooks, it
received that of the estate of Job Vergett, which had
been conducted on September 2, 1672 and was signed by Susanna on September 19,
1672 VI15:

On November 25, 1672, Susanna informed the
York County Court that she intended to leave the county and named Charles Grotham as the caretaker of the estates there VI15, KI1. She next married John Meaders (Meadoes) KI1, SH6, with whom she was the mother of Thomas
Meadoes ES1
(or Thomas Meader KI1).
Thomas
Meades of St. Anne’s Parish in Essex County, Virginia wrote his will on January
29, 1716/7, which mentioned his wife, Anne Meades (who he named as his
executrix), his son, John Meades, his brother-in-law, John Salliss, and Thomas
Coghill, the son of Frederick and Sarah Coghill DO24. His will indicated
that his son should receive all of his land at Powmondsend except for one
hundred acres which he gave to John Sallis, and that should his son die without
issue, that land should be equally divided amongst William Davis, Josias Ship,
and Thomas Ship DO24. He left his plantation and two hundred acres of land to his
wife, Anne Meades, and after her death, the plantation and land were to be
given to his son, John Meades, with the stipulation that should his son die
without issue before he reached the age of twenty-one, the plantation and land
should be given to Richard Ship DO24. Thomas Meades was a slave owner and he
mentioned specific slaves, including Sambo, Nanney, Sarai, and Tom Cutter DO24. The will was
witnessed by Samuel Bizwell, Richard Billups, and Margarett Dudley and
presented in court in Essex County on January 21, 1717/8 by his executrix, Ann
(Meados) Ayres DO24. The inventory of his estate was conducted on February 10,
1717/8 and returned to the court on September 16, 1718 by Ann Ayres DO24.
Susanna’s fourth and final husband was a
man with the surname of “Davis” KI1, ES1, SH6, with whom she was the mother of William Davis, but she
was a widow again in 1691 KI1. Her
will, witnessed by William Gannocke and William
Short, was written on February 15, 1699 and was “Prob’d
by the Oathes of ye
Witnesses hereto in Essex County Court ye
30th day of Xber
[December] 1700” ES1. From the transcription which follows, it
seems as though Elizabeth Shipp should have received a warming pan, a trunk,
clothing, and perhaps a servant boy ES1:
