Manchester Library and Information Service. Greater Manchester County Record Office. 56 Marshall Street, Manchester. L1/37/47. Documents Relating to the Worthingtons of Blainscough, 1307-1597. |
Several abstracts of deeds which related to the Worthington family of Blainscough were created in perhaps the year 1889 or more likely before and are now housed at the Manchester Record Office. It is possible and quite probable that the person who originally wrote out these abstracts was Dr. Richard (Jackson) Kuerden, as Philip Worthington mentioned that this man, who lived in the seventeenth century, created abstracts of ninety-eight Blainscough Hall deeds WO10. The abstracts transcribed by Philip Worthington, located in Appendix D of his book, are very slightly different than those which were sent by the Manchester Record Office. The deeds sent by Manchester span from 1307 until 1597, and notations by Thomas Helsby of Lincoln’s Inn, which were dated in the year 1889, were written on a few of the papers, in a much different hand as that which actually wrote out the abstracts. |
Thomas Helsby scrawled and signed a memorandum on one of the papers, which stated: |
I have sent copies of this & 84 other abstracts of charters &c. relating to the Worthingtons of Blainscough (Allens of Copall, & other, older families) to Mr. James Croston (F.S.A.) for his Edition of Baines History of Lancashire (4 or 5 quarto Vols.) [illegible] this 30 day of Oct 1889. T. Helsby Linc: Inn |
