John Parlen (Nicholas, Sarah), the son of Nicholas and Sarah, was born on March 31, 1666, according to the records of Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. John Parlin and Mary Hartwell, both of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts were married on November 1, 1688 in a ceremony officiated by Jos. Estabrook MA26. He purchased six acres of land located in the north end of Concord near Berry Corner from John and Pricilla Addams for the sum of five pounds on June 8, 1692 MI29:
To all Christian People before whom this prsent Deed of Sale Shall Come Greeting Know ye that I James Addams of the Towne of Concord of ye County of Middx in the Province of the Massachusetts in New England Collier For and in Consideracon of the Sum of five pounds money or as money to me in hand honestly and freely paid by John Parling of the Same Towne and County aforesaid husbandman, the receipt where of I ye said James Addams Do acknowledge, and there wth to be fully Satisfied… Do by these prsents fully Clearly and absolutely acquitt Exonerate and discharge him the aforesaid John Parling his heires… by these prsents Have granted bargained and Sold aliened Enfeoffed Conveyed and Confirmed… unto him the Said John Parling his heires Executrs Adminstrators and Assignes for ever acertaine Tract or parcell of upland lying & being within the Limits and bounds of the Township of Concord aforesaid Scittuate in the North part of the Towne near unto Berry Corner, by Estimacon Six acres be the Same more or less, being allredy marked out. and is bounded Northerly by the Land of ye sd John Parling, and Southerly and Easterly by my own Land that I now dwell upon, and Westerly by ye Village or Towns New Grant. He purchased another ten acres of upland and two acres of meadow from John Addams’ son-in-law, William Hardy, on March 13, 1702/3 MI29:
Know all men by these prsents that I William Hardy of Concord in the County of Midd.x within the Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England Together wth the free will & Consent of Priscilla my now married wife For and in Consideracon of the Certaine Sum of Twenty Three pounds of Currt Silver money of sd Province to me in hand truly and honestly paid & Delivered before the Sealing hereof by John Parling of the aforesaid Towne & County the Receipt whereof I do by these presents acknowledge and there with to be fully Satisfied Contented and well paid, And thereof & of Every part and parcell thereof Do acquitt Exonerate and Clearly discharge him ye aforesaid John Parling and with him his heires Executors Adms and Assignes for Ever Have given granted bargained & Sold & by These psents… unto him the aforesaid John Parling… Two Certaine parcells of Land, both Scituate by me and being within the Limits and bounds of Concord aforesd in the North part thereof the which did formerly belong unto my Father in Law James Addams, The one parcell of Said Land is upland for ye most part and is that upon which I now Dwell, by Estimacon Tenn Acres be the Same more or less, bounding North Easterly partly by the way that is now used leading to Chelmesford, and partly by a Gutter of Water runing down a Swamp Southerly by a Line made betwixt John Healds Land and the prmisses, as also Westerly and NorWest, and Northerly it opens to ye Common the whole being bounded as it was in the Deed of me sd Father Addams gave unto me of the prmises Together will all the buildings & Fenceing thereon Standing. He was probably the John Parling who purchased land in the in the area of Nashoba near Littleton. An indenture dated March 17, 1715/16 described a committee of proprietors made up of Jonathan Prescott, Jr., Joseph Bulkely, and Isaac Power (all of Middlesex County) of the one part and John Parling of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts of the other part, which stated that John Parling purchased one hundred acres of land at Nashoba in Littleton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts for the sum of thirty-three pounds MI29:
Witnesseth That for an in Considera[tion] of the Certain Sum of Thirty and Three pounds in good & Currant money to them sd Jonathan Prescott Joseph Bulkely and Isaac Powers truly and Honestly paid & delivered before sealing hereof by John Parling aforsd to Content Together wth other Things to be done & p[er]formed by him the sd John Parling or his assignes mentioned in this Instrument. Have bargained & Sold and Do hereby Grant bargain Sell Convey… unto him ye afor sd John Parling his heirs & assignes for Ever a Certain allotment Tract or Tracts of Land lying within the limits and bounds of Nashoba aforsd Containing one hundred acres in the whole upland and medow one Tract whereof Is already measured & Set forth Containing Seventy Eight acres Situate on both Sides of Beaver Brook bounding as followeth, at the South Easterly Corner of the prmisses above granted, there is set up a Long Rock for a Corner mark where Is a ledge of Rocks by the way there from wch Corner ye line runs Westerly one hundred fifty and four Rods To a pine Tree markt on a Ridge Hill at ye Westerly Corner of the prmisses, from which the Line runs One Hundred and Twenty Rods upon a northerly point to another markt pine Tree, at the Southerly Side of a great Hill from which ye Line runs Strait upon an Easterly point one hundred and Sixty Rods to a Stake at ye aforesd way, and from sd Stake ye Line runs by the aforesd way upon a Southerly point fourty Rods untill It Comes unto the first Corner above written, and the Remaned[er] of the prmisses Is to be laid unto sd John Parling in ye undiveded Land of sd Nashoba in the most Suitable place to Compleat the sd hundred acres wth all Convenient Speed To Have and To Hold all the above Granted & bargained hundred acres of Land both upland and medow… unto him the afore named John Parling… In Witness whereof They ye sd Jonathan Prescott Joseph Bulkley & Isaac Powers do affix yr hands & Seals ye day of ye date first above mentioned… Signed Sealed & Delivered In ye prsence of us William Wilson Thomas Brown Ebenezer Davis Samll. Likewise, he was probably the John Parling of Littleton who purchased fifty acres of land which was located on Groton Road in Concord from Joseph Temple on July 22, 1719 MI29:
To all Christian People to whom this present Deed of Sale Shall come Greeting Know ye That I Joseph Temple of Concord in the County of Middlesex in New England Yeoman for and in Consideration of the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds money to me in hand well and truly paid before Signing by John Parling of Littleton in the County aforesaid yeoman the Receipt whereof I do by these presents acknowledge and my Self to be therewith fully Satisfied and contented Have given granted bargained and Sold and by these presents do fully and freely give grant bargain sell convey and confirm unto Said John Parling his heirs and assigns forever a Certain Messuage or Tenement Situate lying and being in Concord abovesaid containing fifty acres more or less and a certain Dwelling house thereon, Said fifty acres is made up of Orcharding Plowland meadow swamp woodland &c. And is bounded North partly upon Groton Road and partly upon John Davis’s Land East partly upon Said Davis and partly upon Ebenezar Hartwell’s Land, South partly upon Said Hartwell partly upon Ebenezar Davis and partly upon Jonathan Melvin and west upon Groton Road; two acres of which Land abovesold more particularly lyes west upon Groton Road and on all other points upon Jacob Farrar or howsoever otherwise bounded or reputed to be bounded To have and to hold the Messuage or Tenement abovegranted with all the Buildings fencings Rights Priviledges Commodities and or appurtenances thereon standing or thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining particularly the village Right in Concord afores’d belonging… In Witness whereof I the Said Joseph Temple have heruntto Set my hand and seal this twenty Second day of July Anno Domini One thousand Seven hundred and nineteen… and Abigail Temple wife of the Said Joseph Temple in token of her Consent to the above written hath set her hand & Seal the day abovesd… Sign’d Sealed and delivered in presence of us Timothy Minott James Minot Jun:r Rebecca Minott…
John Parling of Concord, Middlesex County called himself a yeoman in a deed dated March 5, 1726/7 in which he quit-claimed “a certain parcel of medow and medow Land being in the North part of Said Concord and upon a Brook called fifty Acre Brook above the medow which was formerly James Adams’s… being by Estimation two Acres more or less” to James Russell, who was also a yeoman of Concord MI29. At some point prior to November 18, 1737, he was granted or he purchased “thirty acres more or less of meadow and upland in the Township of Billerica bounded East and North on land of Joseph Munroe Southerly on Concord line at the South East and Southwest Corners are a Rock and the line runs from the Rock at the South East Corner Strait by the other rock to Concord line” MI29. On that date, he sold this parcel of land to his son, David Parling, as well as another parcel described as “Eleven acres more or less of land in Acton bounding East on Chelmsford old highway north on Common lands westerly partly on Saml. Wheelers land and partly on Common land” MI29. The records of Concord, Middlesex, Massachusetts state that John Parlin died at about the age of eighty-four years on February 24, 1750 MA26.
Mary Heartwell (Samuell, Ruth), the daughter of Samewell and Ruth, was born on February 16, 1667, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. William Hartwell, the father of Samuel Hartwell and the grandfather of Mary Heartwell, wrote his will on on December 19, 1689 in which he stated “I p[ar]ticularly bequeath a little Iron pot to my Grandchild Mary, ye Daughter of my son[n]e Samuel” MA64. Mary was the mother of John, Mary, Joseph, Joseph, Jonathan, Esther, and Ruth Parling MA26. She was most likely also the mother of David Parling.
John Parling, the son of John and Mary Parling, was born on July 11, 1689, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26.
Mary Parling, the daughter of Jno and Mary Parling, was born on October 8, 1692, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Mary Parlin was said to have married John Hartwell, the son of Ebenezer and Sarah (Smedly) Hartwell, sometime about the year 1718 PA22. Mary and John Hartwell (or Heartwell) were the parents of five children whose births were recorded in Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. These were John Hartwell, born on January 8, 1718, Mary Heartwell, born on December 31, 1720, Simon Heartwell, born on September 28, 1722, Sarah Hartwell, born on November 23, 1725, and David Heartwell, born on January 22, 1730/31 MA26. Mrs. Mary Hartwell, the wife of John, died at age eighty-one years and four months on March 5, 1774, and Ensign John Hartwell died at age eighty-nine years, seven months, and twenty-seven days on December 20, 1780, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26.
Joseph Parling, the son of John and Mary Parling, was born on July 24, 1695, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Joseph was said to have died on June 10, 1697 PA22.
Joseph Parling, the son of Jno and Mary Parling, was born on September 22, 1698, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Joseph Parlin was said to have married Abigail Stratton, the daughter of Samuel III and Ruth Stratton, sometime in about the year 1727 PA22. Joseph and Abigail Parlin were the parents of eight children whose births were recorded in Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. These were Sarah, born on January 7, 1727/8, Abigail, born on March 2, 1728/9, Daniel, born on June 28, 1732, Simon, born on December 20, 1734, Ruth, born on August 31, 1737, Hannah, born on January 24, 1739/40, Oliver, born on September 21, 1741, and Mary, born on July 4, 1743 MA26. Joseph and Abigail Parlin were also the parents of two children whose births were recorded in Carlisle, Middlesex County, Massachusetts; these were Peter, born on October 9, 1748, and Pheby, born on May 14, 1750 MA26. Peter and Phebe Parlin both died on October 11, 1756, according to the records of Concord, and Simon Parlin died at age nineteen on May 28, 1753, according to the Carlisle records MA26.
Jonathan Parling, the son of Jno and Mary Parling, was born on June 22, 1701, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Jonathan Parling and Sarah Warner were married by Reverend John Rogers on January 23, 1734/5, according to the records of Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts MA26. Sarah Warner was said to have been the daughter of John and Hannah Warner PA22. Jonathan and Sarah Parlin were the parents of eight children whose births and deaths both occurred in and were recorded in Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. These were Jonathan, born on January 6, 1735/6, Sarah, born on March 15, 1738, Nathan, born on February 18, 1739/40, Mary, born on July 21, 1742, Lucy, born on October 14, 1744, Samuel, born on May 18, 1747, Elizebeth, born on March 25, 1751, and Asa, born on November 3, 1754 MA26. Jonathan Parlin, the son of Jonathan and Sarah, died on September 23, 1758 in Lake George, and Sarah, the daughter of Jonathan and Sarah, died on August 6, 1759 in Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Jonathan Parlin died at age sixty-nine on January 9, 1767, and Sarah Parlin, the widow of Jonathan, died at age eighty-six on May 9, 1790, according to the records of Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26.
David Parling was said to have born to John and Mary Parling about the year 1703 PA22. David Parlin and Sarah Farrar, both of Concord, were married by Justice Minott on April 9, 1726, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Sarah Farrar was said to have been the daughter of Josiah and Mary Wood and the widow of Jacob Farrar PA22. David and Sarah Parlin were the parents of four children whose births were recorded in Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. These were David, born on April 13, 1727, Josiah, born on May 5, 1730, Ann, born on August 8, 1732, and Lois, born on October 16, 1735 MA26. John Parling called David Parling his son in a deed dated November 18, 1737 in which he sold his dwelling house and barn located “in the Northerly part of Said Concord with twenty acre of land more or less” and “thirty acres more or less of meadow and upland in the Township of Billerica” and “Eleven acres more or less of land in Acton” for the sum of two hundred and fifty pounds MI29.
Esther Parling, the daughter of John and Mary Parling, was born on January 3, 1705/6, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Esther Parling was called John Parling’s unmarried daughter on October 16, 1737 when he wrote a deed which left her the contents of his house and the ability to use his house after his death MI29:
To all People to whom these presents may come Know ye that I John Parling of Concord in the County of Middlesex in the Province of the Massachusetts Bay in New England yeoman for the manifestation of my Love and good will towards my Daughter Esther Parling of Said Concord Spinster do hereby give and pass over to her my Said Daughter all my Household goods and moveables within Doors to her and her heirs xrs. forever after my decease and likewise to give to her said Esther Parling the Improvement of my now Dwelling house after my Decease and al so the Improvement of a piece of ground about half an acre more or less bounded northeast at a Stake and Stones running west to a Run of water then running South to a two rod way then on a Strait line to the Stake and Stones also the Improvement of a piece of Ground fenced in with wall on the back side of the Barn with Liberty of getting her firewood as she Shall need on the land between the two rod way and the new country road running up to Joseph Parlings line all this privilege of Improving the House and Lands abovesaid with the liberty of getting firewood I allow to Said Esther Parling So long as she shall live Single or unmarried…
Ruth Parling, the daughter of John and Mary Parling, was born on April 7, 1709, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. Ruth Parlin and Thomas Meed, both of Concord, were married by Justice Minott on December 12, 1738, according to the records of Concord, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, which also indicated that they were the parents of Mary Meed, born on September 16, 1739 MA26. Ruth and Thomas Mead were also the parents of five children whose births or baptisms were recorded in Westford, Middlesex County, Massachusetts MA26. These were Thomas, born on January 4, 1741/2, Susanna, born on April 12, 1744, John, baptized on September 14, 1746, Ruth, born on October 1, 1749, and Stephen, born on August 15, 1752 MA26.
Mary Parling was mentioned in her father’s will, dated February 12, 1721/2 AM1. The records of Concord, Middlesex, Massachusetts state that Mary Parlin, the wife of John Parlin, died on March 14, 1738/9 at the age of seventy-one years and one month MA26.
