Richard Gaymer, Jr. (Richard, Alice) was probably born sometime after his parents married in February 1561/2, but before the death of his father in April 1571 GR3. He was a miller and a landowner who was literate TU4, WR4, and he held land on the Ockendon Fee in Terling, a village which primarily exported grain WR4. He married Margaret Mason on July 23, 1590 in Terling, Essex, England TU4, EN6, ST35. The record of their marriage was written in the All Saints Church, Terling Parish Register as “Richarde Gaymer & Margaret Mason were marryed the xxiijth day of July 1590” ES13.
Between the years of 1595 and 1601, he served as a juror for various towns TU4. A record dated in July 1600 indicated that Richard chose to fish on April 26, a Sabbath, and did not attend the prayer service that evening (“Rchrd Gaymer de Terling… for fysshing the xxvjth daye of Aprill being Sabaoth daye and also for loosing of evening prayer the same daye”), but quite unfortunately, the script became much too cramped and muddled to decipher the remainder of the notation AR1.
After the death of Margaret, he married Joan Robinson on February 19, 1602/3 in Fairstead, Essex, England TU4, EN6, with whom he was the father of James, Richard, Judith, Bridget, Frances (a daughter) TU4, EN4, and Francis (a son) TU4, who were each baptized in Terling, Essex between TU4, EN4. In 1607, he probably employed the services of Agnes Dawson and John Rond at his mill, as these two individuals were referred to as his “inmates” WR4.
James Gaymer was baptized in Terling, Essex, England on January 8, 1603/4 ES13, TU4, ST35. He was called “my third sonne” in the will of Richard Gaymer, dated October 8, 1613 WI21, and he was buried in Terling, Essex on November 19, 1616 ST35.
Richard Gaymer was baptized in Terling, Essex, England on October 31, 1605 ES13, TU4, ST35. He was called “my fowerth sonne” in the will of Richard Gaymer, dated October 8, 1613 WI21. He may have been the Richard Gaymer ES21 or Gammer EN6 who married Judith Clerk ES21 or Clark EN6 on May 12, 1632 at St. Mary the Virgin Church in Kelvedon, Essex, England ES21, which is about ten miles northwest of Terling. Several children were born to Richard Gaymer between the years 1632 and 1644, whose baptisms and burials were recorded in Terling, Essex, England ST35. It is unclear if all or any of these children were the children of Richard, son of Richard Gaymer and Joan (Robinson) Gaymer. Richard, the son of Richard and Judith Gaymer, was baptized on March 7, 1632/3; this individual may have been the same Richard, son of Richard Gaymer who was buried on March 23, 1633/4 ST35. Benjamin, the son of Richard Gaymer, was buried on February 22, 1639/40 ST35. It appears that at some point between 1633 and 1642, Judith Gaymer (Richard’s wife) died; her burial record has not been located. A marriage record between Richard Gaymer and Mary also has not been found, but they likely married prior to 1640. Sarah, the daughter of Richard and Mary Gaymer, was baptized on March 5, 1639/40 ST35. John, the son of Richard and Mary Gaymer, was baptized on April 10, 1642 ST35. An unnamed child of “R” Gaymer was buried on March 28, 1642, and another unnamed child of Richard Gaymer was buried on September 29, 1643 ST35. Richard and Mary Gaymer were the parents of Joanna Gaymer, who was baptized in Terling, Essex on January 7, 1643/4 ST35. Richard, the son of Richard Gaymer, was buried on September 27, 1644 and one month later, Richard Gaymer “senr” was buried on October 31, 1644 in Terling, Essex, England ST35.
Judith Gaymer was baptized in Terling, Essex, England on May 21, 1607 ES13, TU4, ST35. Judeth Gaymer was mentioned in the will of Richard Gaymer, dated October 8, 1613 WI21, and she was buried in Terling, Essex on November 15, 1616 ES13, TU4, ST35. Bridget Gaymer was baptized in Terling, Essex, England on March 30, 1609 and was buried in Terling on April 20, 1614 ST35. She was not mentioned in her father’s will. Frances Gaymer, the daughter of Richard Gaymer, was baptized in Terling, Essex, England on January 20, 1610/11 and (as “Franncis” ES13) was buried on January 21, 1612/13 ES13, TU4, ST35. She was the only child who died in Richard’s lifetime. Francis Gaymer was baptized in Terling, Essex, England on February 7, 1612/13 ST35. Frannces Gaymer was called “my fift[h] sonne” in the will of Richard Gaymer, dated October 8, 1613 WI21. The record of his death has not been located.
Richard created his will on October 8, 1613 TU4, WI21, which was proved on October 25, 1613 TU4, and he was buried in Terling, Essex on October 10, 1613 ES13, TU4, ST35. He mentioned nine of his eleven children, as his daughter, Frances, had recently died, but Bridget was not mentioned, and Lydia, his fifth child, was his last-named beneficiary. A transcription of this will has been provided as faithfully as possible, including the replication of slash marks, rather than commas, in instances in which the punctuation mark more closely resembled the former, rather than the latter WI21:

Margaret Mason may have been the daughter of Richard Mason of Terling, although a record of her christening was not located in the All Saints Church, Terling Parish Register. Richard Mason was the father of John, who was christened in August 1560, and who died the following September, and he was the father of Abraham, who was christened in October 1570 ES13.
