Isaack Richardson ★
of "Curdley” in Lancaster County, husbandman, married Katherine
Gandy of Overwhitley in Chester County on March 10,
1707 at “Franley” in Chester County, England,
according to the records of the Quarterly Meeting of Cheshire and Staffordshire
EN15. The ceremony was witnessed by Hannah C…sbid,
W’m Gandy, Margt. Ewanbrook, Jun., Elian.r Cooke,
W’m Dale, John Lambe, John Ewanbrook, John Ryle, Mary Gandy, Eliano.r Hyde,
and several others EN15. He
may have lived in Cuerdley at the time of his
marriage, which is approximately eleven miles northwest from Higher Whitley. “Franley” was likely Frandley in
Cheshire County, which is about one mile east of Higher (Over) Whitley.
Isaack
Richardson described himself as a yeoman of Whiteland, Chester County,
Pennsylvania when he wrote his will on October 14, 1726, which was proved on
November 12, 1726; a transcription of his will has been provided PE24:
In
the name of God, Amen. ye
fourteenth Day of October in the year of our Lord 1726 I Isaack Richardson of
Whiteland in the County of Chester in the province of Pensilvania
Yeoman being very sick and weak in body but of perfect
mind & memory Calling unto mind the mortality of my Body & knowing that
it is appointed for all men once to Dye do make & ordain this my Last Will
& Testamt. that is to say principally & first of all I
give & recomend my soul into the hands of God
that gave it, And for my body I recom[m]end it to the
Earth to be buried in A Christian Like and Decent manner at ye Discretion of my Exers
& as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me
in this Life I give and Devise & Dispose of the same in the following
manner & form. Imprs I give & Bequeath
unto Catherine my beloved wife the sum of one hundred pound of good & Lawfull mony of this province to
be raised & Levied out of my Estate the Interest whereof to be paid Yearly
or as she may have occasion for it the stock to remain in my Exers
hands or to be put out to Interest P[er] them as they shall think fit till her
decease at which time she may leave it to whom she pleases I likewise leave to
her and my Children ye
further Lower Room together with A Bed and the usual furniture belonging to it
as long as the Keep themselves unmarried or till the Estate be Disposed of Item
I give to my son Jehew and my Dearly beloved
Daughters Mary, Elizabth Elinor and Martha all and
singular the Lands Messuages & Tenenments
likewise all my personall Estate goods Chattels &
whatever Else to me belongeth by them freely to be
possessed & Injoyed by them their heirs and
Assigns for Ever that is to be Devided Equally
betwixt them by my Exer Item my will &
pleasure is that if any of my Children Dye before the Cum to the age of 21
years if not married that then their portion shall be Equally Devided betwixt ye
other Children Likewise if any of them Marry and Turn from ye sosiety of Friends that if [probably
“is”] from the profession I brought them up in that then my Exers shall
Keep half of their portion in their own hands till such times as he or she shal be received into the same meeting again & if they
do not Come into that sosiety again my will is that
their Children shall have it but if he or she Dye without Issue my will is that
it shall be Devided betwixt my other Children their
heirs or assigns by my Exers their heirs Exers
Admrs or assigns also my will and pleasure is that
my Children shall receive their portions at the age of 21 years I Likewise
Constitute make & ordain my only & sole Exers
of this my Last Will and Testamt
Isaac Melin Wm
Paschall and Catherine my Beloved my Beloved [sic] wife all of this
Township and I do hereby utterly Disalow revoke &
Disanull all and Every other Former Wills Testaments
Legacies & Exers by me in any ways before
this time named willed & bequeathed Ratifying And Confirming this & no
other to be my Last will & Testamt.

administration of his estate was granted to Isaac Melin,
William Paschall, and Catherine Richardson on November 12, 1726 PE24.
Katherine Gandy ★ (Richard,
Ellin), the daughter
of Richard and Ellin Gandy of Overy Whitley,was born on the 5th day of the
8th month,
1681, according to
the “Register Booke of Births of ye People
called Quakers in ye Citty and County of Chester” for the Quarterly Meeting of
the Society of Friends of Cheshire and Staffordshire EN16. She was
the mother of Elinor, Martha, Jehu, and was most likely the mother of Mary and
Elizabeth.
Mary
Richardson was named in her father’s will, dated October 14, 1726 PE24. The records of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester County,
Pennsylvania state that Mary Richardson, the daughter of Isaac Richardson
(deceased) and Jacob Wright declared their intent to marry for the first time
on the 9th day of the 7th
month, 1728, and again for the second time on the 21st day of the 8th
month, 1728; the following monthly meeting held on the 18th day of the 9th
month, 1728 indicated that their marriage had been accomplished US11. Jacob Wright probably died in early 1735. The probate record
for Jacob Wright included a document dated May 28, 1735 which stated “I Mary
Wright Widow and Relict of Jacob Wright do renounce all my Rights &
Interest of the Admon [Administration] of my sd
late husbands Estate unto my Brother
in law John Chades” CH21. The records of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester County,
Pennsylvania which was held on the 20th day
of the 8th month, 1735 state US11:
Abigail
Wright the daughter of Jacob Wright deceased being a helpless child as wanting
speech and also being weak in her understanding and
therefor is like to become an object of the care & charity of this Monthly
Meeting which appoints David Davies Robert Benson and Francis Yarnall to agree
for the maintenance of the said Abigail in as suitable a place to her
circumstance as they can. Also this Meeting appoints
George Ashbridge and Richard Jones to take care of that Susanna Wright a
Younger daughter of the said Jacob Wright be suitably settled ~
The records of the
Germantown Monthly Meeting in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania state that on
the 17th day of the 9th
month, 1735, Abigail Wright was then residing with her uncle, John Townsend US11.
Elizabeth Richardson
was named in her
father’s will, dated October 14, 1726 PE24. The records of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester County,
Pennsylvania state that Elizabeth Richardson, the daughter of Isaac Richardson
(called deceased and a yeoman), late of Whiteland in Chester County, married
John Chads, the son of Francis Chads (also called deceased and a yeoman), late
of “Burlagham” (probably Birmingham) in Chester
County, on the 2nd day of the 8th month, 1729 at the Goshen Meetinghouse
in a ceremony witnessed by Robert Benson, Catherine Benson, William Horn,
Richard Woodward, Jacob Wright, Mary Wright, Ellin
Richardson, Martha Richardson, and many others US11.
Elinor
Richardson, the
daughter of Isaac and Catherine Richardson, was born on the 28th day of the 10th month, 1714, according to the records
of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania US11.
Martha
Richardson, the daughter of Isaac and Catherine Richardson, was born on
the 25th day of the 3rd
month, 1719, according to the records of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester
County, Pennsylvania US11. The
genealogical records of the Exeter Monthly Meeting in Berks County,
Pennsylvania state that Martha Richardson, the daughter of Isaac and Catharine
(Gandy) Richardson, was born on the 23rd day
of the 3rd month, 1717 and married Robert Stewart in 1732 at the
Wilmington Monthly Meeting in Delaware US11.
These same records state that Robert Stewart, the son of Alexander and Mary
(Baily) Stewart, was born on the 25th day
of the 11th month, 1710 US11.
These records further state that both Mary and Robert Stewart resided in
Georgia as late as 1773 US11.
The records also list information about the eleven children of Mary and Robert
Stewart US11. John Stewart was born in 1733, Elizabeth was born in 1735,
Alexander was born in 1737, and Jehu was born on the 22nd day of the 8th
month, 1740 US11. These records lack
birth data for the remainder of their children, who were Mary, Isaac,
Catharine, Rachel, Gravener, Amos, and Hannah US11. She was named in her father’s will, dated October 14, 1726 PE24.
Jehu
Richardson, the son of Isaac and Catherine Richardson, was born on the 21st day of the 4th
month, 1721, according to the records of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester
County, Pennsylvania US11. Jehu
was named in his father’s will, dated October 14, 1726 PE24.
The
records of the Goshen Monthly Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania state
that Catherine Richardson of Whiteland in Chester County married Robert Benson
of Uwchlan Township in Chester County, on the 2nd day of the 3rd
month, 1728 at the Uwchlan Meetinghouse in a ceremony
witnessed by John Benson, Mary Richardson, Elizabeth Richardson, Elinor
Richardson, Martha Richardson, and others US11.
