Thomas Mills (John) was the son of John Mills BJ1, BJ2, and was born about the year 1709, likely near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania BJ2. According to the minutes of the Chester Monthly Meeting, Thomas Mills and Elizabeth Harrold, the daughter of the widow Mary Harrold of “Monoquisy” near the Potomac River, declared their intent to marry for the second time on the 30th day of the 3rd month, 1730 BJ2. The Monocacy River is a tributary of the Potomac, and this area was the site of a Quaker settlement established in about 1725 BJ2. The records of the New Garden Monthly Meeting in Chester County, Pennsylvania stated that “Thomas Mills son of John Mills of Manoquisy near ye River Potomack”, married Elizabeth Harrold, the daughter of Mary Harrold, at the residence of Josiah Ballengars at Monoquisy (Monocacy) on the 18th day of the 4th month in 1730 (June 18, 1730) US11, BJ1, BJ2. As was customary for Quaker weddings, dozens of witnesses to the ceremony signed their names or made their mark on their name.
