Richard Sibley was a traymaker and a resident of Salem, Massachusetts in 1656 SA11, SI1. The wife of Richard “Sibsley”, of Salem, was presented at the Salem Court on July 20, 1658 because she was frequently absent from church DO13. Richard “Sibly” died intestate sometime before June 30, 1676, the date on which the inventory of his estate was conducted TH28, SA11, SI1. The administration of Richard’s estate was granted to his widow, Hanna, who was to pay six pounds to her eldest child, Samuell, and three pounds apiece to Hana, Sara, Damaris, John, Mary, and Elizabeth upon their majority or their marriage TH28, DO17. His estate was valued at ninety-four pounds and one shilling DO17, and his possessions have been reproduced below, without their individual valuations TH28:

Hanna was the mother of Samuell, Hana, Sara, Damarice, John, Mary, and perhaps Elizabeth.

Samuell Sibly, the son of Richard and Hanna, was born on March 10, 1658/9 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32, MA20, SA11, SI1. Hana Sibly, the daughter of Richard and Hanna, was born on September 20, 1661 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32, MA20, SA11. Hannah Sibly married William Breckett on May 19, 1683 in Marblehead, Essex County, Massachusetts VI34. William and Hannah Beckitt were the parents of three children whose births were recorded in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI31. These were John, born on August 10, 1684, Hannah, born on July 17, 1686, and Margett, born on May 14, 1688 VI31. William Becket was named as the father of eight children whose baptisms were recorded in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI31. These were John, Hanna, Margrit, Mary, and William, who were all baptized in March 1695, Benjamin Becket, baptized on March 14, 1697, Elizabeth Becket, baptized on June 2, 1700, and Retire Becket, baptized on April 24, 1704 VI31.

Sara Sibly, the daughter of Richard and Hanna, was born on December 20, 1663 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32, MA20, SA11. Damarice Sibly (or Damaries), the daughter of Richard and Hanna, was born on August 26, 1666 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32, MA20, SA11. Damaris Sibley married William Worth on September 3, 1703 in Nantucket, Massachusetts in a ceremony officiated by James Coffin, Esquire MA26. William Worth of Sherborn on the Island of Nantucket in the Province of Massachusetts Bay in New England wrote his will on February 1, 1719 in which he mentioned his wife, Damaris Worth; this will was proved before the Judge of Probates for the County of Nantucket on November 11, 1724 MA64. Damaris Sibley, the second wife of William Worth, who was the son of John Worth of England, died on June 2, 1745 in Nantucket, Massachusetts VI27.

John Sibly, the son of Richard and Hana, was born during the first week in April 1669 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32, MA20, SA11. John Sibley married Elizabeth Peale on July 4, 1695 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI34. John and Elizabeth (Peale) Sibley were the parents of five children whose births were recorded in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32. These were Elizabeth, born on October 3, 1696, twins Hannah and Mary, born on March 14, 1701, Mary, born on April 25, 1702, and John, born on December 1, 1704 VI32. Elizabeth died at age twenty months about the year 1698, and both twins (Hannah and Mary) died at age one week about March 21, 1701 VI35.

Mary Sibly, the daughter of Richard and Hana, was born on January 25, 1671/2 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts VI32, MA20, SA11. Mary Sibley married Joseph Swain about the year 1695 or by the year 1699 in Nantucket, Massachusetts TO1. Joseph Swaine was the father of two children whose births were recorded in Nantucket, Massachusetts MA26. These were Peter, born on June 22, 1697 and Richard, born on August 16, 1698 MA26. Joseph Swain, the son of John and Mary (Wyer) Swain and the husband of Mary Sibley of Salem, died in 1766 in Nantucket, Massachusetts VI27. Elizabeth Sibly was said to have been born to Richard and Hanna Sibley in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts SA11, but her birth record was not located.

Hanna may have been the woman named Hannah Sibley who testified at the Salem Court on November 29, 1681 that she saw the injuries inflicted upon Joane Suiflan, the Irish servant who was employed by Thomas Mawle (Maule) DO19. She stated that she saw that Joane’s “face was bloody and swollen about as large as a child’s fist. There was also a wound on her face, which she said her master did with his horse whip” DO19. Hanna was alive in 1700 SI1.
