John Riddlesdale (Henry, Joan) was baptized on September 26, 1557 at St. Mary’s Church in Boxford, Suffolk, England (as John Riddlesdall, the son of Henrye) BA56, TH34. He married Dorcas circa 1583, probably in Assington, Suffolk TH34. He was mentioned in the will of his father, Henry Ridsdale of Boxford, dated June 20, 1591 WI16 :
In the name of god amen the twentith daye of June in the yeare of oure lord god 1591 and in the xxxiijtio yeare of the Reigne of oure Sovereigne Ladye Elizabeth… I Henry Ridsdale of Boxford in the Countie of Suff and within the dioces of Norwiche yeoman… Item I give & bequeath to John Ridsdale my Sonne fowerteene powndes of good & lawfull money to be paid unto him within sixe monethes nexte after thend [the end] & expiracon [expiration] of my lease which I have in the Ferme [Farm] where I now dwell called by the name of Coddenham Hall [the village of Coddenham is about twenty miles northeast of Boxford]…
John and Dorcas “Riddelsdale” sold several acres of pasture land in Assington to John Gryme, the elder, and his wife, Faythe (Faith), of Assington for 120 pounds on January 3, 1613/4 MY2, TH46, TH34. This land included a ten-acre close with a grove called Marshefeilde (Marshfield), a five-acre close called “Lighte”, another five-acre close adjacent to Marshfield which had no name, and one two-acre close called “longe Stropp” MY2, TH46. These properties had previously been owned by John Vigores the younger, a clothier of Langham in Essex, who had purchased them on June 5, 1555 (or 1556) from John Gurdon, a gentleman of Little Waldingfield in Suffolk, and his son, Robert Gurdon with a term of five hundred years MY2. After the death of John Vigorus the younger, the lease and the land passed to his sons, John Vigorous and Robert Vigorous (per the last will and testament of John Vigores the younger) MY2. Next, the lease and the lands passed to Arthure and Margery Gylgate, then to George Farrow, then to Robert Barrett of Stratford, then to John Barrett (the eldest son of Robert Barrett), then to John and Dorcas Riddelsdale MY2.
According to this indenture, John and Dorcas purchased the lease and lands on November 7, 1575 (“the seaventh daye of November in the Nynthe Yeare of the Reigne of or sov[er]aigne Lorde Kinge James that nowe is of Englande”) MY2. This would indicate that they were already married in 1575. The transcription of this indenture follows MY2:

Dorcas was the mother of Susan, Richard, Thomas, John, Dorcas, Edward, and John TH34, TH46. John Brooks Threlfall believed that Dorcas may have been a relative or granddaughter of John Vigorus TH34.
Suzan Riddlesdall, the daughter of “Jo. Riddlesdall” and Dorcas his wife, was baptized on April 20, 1584 at St. Mary’s Church in Boxford, Suffolk, England BA56, TH34, TH46.
Richard Riddlesdale was likely born about 1586 TH46. Henry Ridsdale of Boxford wrote his will on June 20, 1591, which mentioned his grandsons, Richard and Thomas WI16:

Dorcas Riddlesdale was likely born about 1590 and may have been a twin with Joan TH46. Dorcas Riddlesdale married Thomas Dynes, a yeoman of Assington, on October 11, 1610 in Assington, Suffolk, England CH35, TH46. Edward Riddlesdale was likely born about 1592 and married an individual named Mary or Marie TH46. Edward and Marie (or Mary) were the parents of three children who were baptized in Assington, Suffolk, England CH35, TH46. These were Edward, who was baptized on April 23, 1620, Marie (or Mary), who was baptized on January 29, 1621/2, and Sara (or Sarah), who was baptized on November 16, 1623 CH35, TH46. He may have been the father of Dorcas, who was baptized on June 18, 1629 at St. Mary’s Church in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England, but the record stated that she was a daughter of Henry TH34, BA56. Rebecca, the daughter of Edward Riddlysdale TH46 or Riddlesdale BA56, was baptized on December 5, 1630 at St. Mary’s Church in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England TH46, BA56. Edward Ridlesdale of Bures St. Mary was buried on February 9, 1630/31 in Assington, Suffolk, England CH35, TH34, TH46. His widow, Marie Riddlesdale, next married John Wiat (or Wyatt) on June 27, 1632 in Assington, Suffolk, England CH35, TH46 and they relocated to Ipswich, Essex County, Massachusetts TH46. The will of John Wyatt, dated November 23, 1665, mentioned his daughters, Mary, Sarah, and Dorcas, whom John Brooks Threlfall believed were his stepdaughters TH34, TH46.
John Riddlesdale was likely born about 1594 to 1598 in Assington, Suffolk, England TH46. John Riddlesdale, the son of John, was buried on December 10, 1602 in Assington, Suffolk, England CH35, TH46.
Sara Riddlesdale, the daughter of John and Dorcas Riddlesdale, was baptized on March 2, 1599/1600 in Assington, Suffolk, England TH34, CH35, TH46. Sarah Riddlesdale married Marke Gryme on May 30, 1620 in Assington, Suffolk, England TH46, CH35. Mark Gryme was mentioned in the 1638 will of John Gryme, Sr., of Bures St. Mary TH46. Helen Barrell transcribed a baptism record for Mark Grimes, the son of Mark Grimes, which occurred on March 17, 1652/53 in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England BA56. It is unclear if these individuals were related to the Mark Gryme who married Sara Riddlesdale.
Dorcas Ridlesdale, the wife of John, was buried on September 24, 1624 in Assington, Suffolk, England CH35, TH34.
