John Brooks Threlfall stated that before their wedding, the Bures St. Mary parish did not contain records of any individuals with the surname “French” TH46. They relocated to Assington, Suffolk, England by the time their daughter, Elizabeth, was baptized there on February 27, 1586/7 TH35. Jacob French was buried on November 11, 1615 in Assington, Suffolk, England TH35, LI3, CH35.

It is unclear how he may have been related to “Mr. Edw. French”, who was called the father of Thomas French in his baptismal record in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England; Thomas was baptized in 1629/30, sometime after the record of the previous baptism, which occurred on March 10, 1629/30 BA56. Thomas French (the surname was unclear to the transcriber, Helen Barrell), the son of Edward, was buried on July 1, 1632 in Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, England BA56.

Susan Warren may have been born circa 1555 and was probably the mother of William, Jacob, Thomas, Elizabeth, John, Susan, and Robert French. She may have been the daughter or descendant of William and Katherine Warren, who were of Bures St. Mary TH35. A man named William Warren was buried on October 12, 1550 in Bures St. Mary TH35. He may have been the same man named William Warren who died intestate and whose administration of his estate was granted to his widow, Katherine, on September 26, 1554 TH35. Katherine Warren of Bures in Essex wrote her will on July 31, 1567, which was proved in January 1570/1 TH35. Her will mentioned her daughter, Julyan, her son-in-law, John Awnsell/Ansell, the children of John Ansell (John and Alice Ansell, who may have been her grandchildren), her sons, Thomas, John, and Robert Waryn, her grandchildren (William and John Waryn, who were the sons of her son, Thomas Waryn), and her four young unnamed children TH35. She did not mention a daughter or a granddaughter named Susan TH35.
