Jacob Fleenor |

Jacob Fleenor (Johannes, Anna) was born circa 1754 in
Germany or Bucks County, Pennsylvania RE14.
If he was born in Germany, he arrived in Philadelphia on November 7, 1754 on
the John and Elizabeth RU1. He resided
in Bucks County or Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and then relocated to
Frederick County, Maryland, after which he and some of
his brothers settled in Washington County, Virginia RE14.
On August 21, 1781,
Jacob bought 400 acres of land at Meadow Creek, Virginia, and on February 10,
1783, he purchased another 400 acres at “Branch Beaver Creek” (probably a
branch of Beaver Creek), Virginia SU4.
This was likely the Beaver Creek which lies between Bristol and Abingdon in
Washington County, Virginia. On
June 29, 1790, Jacob “Fllener” (this was probably a
transcription error) purchased 300 acres of land in Sullivan County, North
Carolina from Andrew Little for the sum of £300 HI15. The description of the land stated
“One tract of land in the sd. County of Sullivan containing 300 acres and
bounded as follows: Beginning at a black oak near the river
bank” HI15. The transaction was witnessed by
Joseph Wallace HI15. On April 11, 1791, he sold 190 acres of the Beaver Creek property
to Jacob Zink for £130 SU4. He
granted the remaining 210 acres at the head spring of a branch of Beaver Creek
to John Fleenor on April 28, 1791 SU4.
Jacob’s name was on the 1796 and 1797 tax lists for Sullivan County, Tennessee,
when in those years he owned 200 acres of land TE4; Sullivan County had recently been allotted to Tennessee.
On May 19, 1800,
Jacob Fleenor sold 150 acres of land in Sullivan County to Samuel McCorkle for
a sum of $300 HI15. The land description stated “a certain tract or parcel of land containing 150
acres taken out of the tract the said David Perry now lives on”, and the deed
was witnessed by Benjamin Birdwell and Jeremiah Chase HI15. On November 21, 1808, Jacob Fleanor sold 172 acres of land on the south side of Holston
River in Sullivan County to Elijah Watson for the sum of “a valuable
consideration” HI15. On November 25, 1808, he granted a parcel of eighty-eight acres
near the Holston River in Sullivan County, Tennessee to his son, Samuel BL5, HI15 for the consideration of “natural love
and affection” HI15. In other words, Jacob gave this land
to Samuel as a gift HI15.
This land was located at a corner of Elijah Watson’s land, a corner of John
Shell’s land, and on Matthias Little’s line HI15. Jacob died
sometime after the date of this deed, possibly in Sullivan County, Tennessee or
Wayne County, Kentucky RE14. The
transcription of the 1808 deed follows BL5:
This Indenture made this 25th of November 1808 between Jacob Fleanor of the one part and Samuel Fleanor
son of the said Jacob Fleanor of the other part Witnesseth that the said Jacob Fleanor
no well for and in consideration of the Natural love and Affection which he
hath and beareth unto the Said Samuel Fleanor his Son as also for the better maintenances and
preferment of the Said Samuel Fleanor hath I Given
and granted alined enfeoffed and Confirmed and by
these presents do give and grant unto the Said Samuel Fleenor and to [his]
heirs for ever a Certain tract or parcel of Land
Containing eighty eight acres be the same more or Less said Said
[sic] land lying and being in the
County of Sullivan and State of Tennessee to wit Begining
at a hickory and Spanish oak Sapling on the south bank of holston
River & Corner of Elijah Watsons thence along his line South five hundred
and seventeen poles to Two Pines and a White oak on Matthias Littles line
thence along the Same North forty two degrees East one hundred and ninety two
poles to two White oaks on the River bank a Corner of John Shells thence along
down the Several Courses of Said Rivers to the begining
with all and Singular its appurtentenances [sic] and all the estate right title intrest property Claim & demand Whatsoever of him the
Said Samuel Fleanor his heirs and assigns shall and
lawfully may from Henceforth forever hereafter peacably
and quietly have hold use occupy possess and enjoy the said Land… In Witness
whereof the said Jacob Fleenor hath hereunto set his hand and seal…
